Difference Between Pork Loin and Pork Tenderloin

Have you ever read a recipe that called for a pork tenderloin and you bought a pork loin instead thinking they were the same thing?  Frustrating isn't it, when your glaze burns and your meat isn't cooked through at the time the recipe said?  Or, worse, done it in reverse and cooked a pork tenderloin to death in a roasting pan.

Meal Plan Camping Style

Things have been a little stressful in good ways and in not so good ways around the Now Things Are Cookin' household the last few weeks, which is why the blog has been quiet lately.  My husband and his best friend have known each other literally all their lives.  They lived across the street from each other from the time they were babies until they graduated from high school and even roomed together in college.  Two weeks ago my husband's best friend's father passed away.  Both the family and my husband have been taking it hard.

Two days after the funeral, we took our annual  four day/three night (car) camping trip with three other families. We've taken this trip ever since the 8 year old was the 3 year old,  It's always a trip we look forward to every year, even after the disaster of a trip four years ago when it was 100 degrees every day and none of our campsites had any shade!

Chicken Bruschetta

So technically this isn't a bruschetta.  Bruschetta is really bread rubbed with garlic and olive oil.  The tomato topping is really a "tomato salad" often served with bruschetta.  But the name for this seems to work and most everyone thinks of the tomato salad when they think of bruschetta.

Grilled Bacon Wrapped Chicken Tenders

This recipe is a lesson in frugality, ingenuity and being able to adapt.  I wanted to grill bacon wrapped scallops for Independence Day, knowing scallops would be on sale at our local Fresh Market.  But then we were without power for five days that week following a storm that left the Virginia (and other areas) in a state of emergency.

Working Ahead - Hamburger Patties

Welcome to a new five week series entitled Working Ahead.  Each week I'll focus on one area where I do prep for a meal or meals in advance.  Most of what I prepare ahead of time goes into my tiny freezer, but some things are short term and go to the fridge for the next day.

Baby Back Barbeque Ribs - Recipe

My dad loves ribs.  Unfortunately my dad was never successful at grilling ribs.  (Sorry, Dad.)  He attempted them once a year or so and would burn them to a crisp every.single.time.  My husband also loves ribs, but growing up with crispy char-ribs, I had no interest in cooking them at home.
